Challenge

The festival started with a working title: Olomoucké slavnosti — literally “Olomouc Festivities”, after the historic city of Olomouc in the eastern Czech Republic. Functional, but so generic it could mean almost anything. Designed as an accessible music festival for a broad audience and a diverse line-up, the event needed more than a new visual identity. It needed a name capable of becoming a brand: simple, memorable and approachable, yet distinctive enough to stand out in a crowded festival landscape. The original brief suggested building the name around Haná, the wider cultural region surrounding Olomouc. We challenged that assumption. Rather than anchoring the festival too literally in local geography or a particular musical genre, we looked for something more universal: why people go to festivals in the first place.

Concept

Our namefinding explored several territories, from music and rock’n’roll culture to regional identity and contemporary behaviour. The strongest idea emerged from a familiar expression born online but perfectly suited to an offline experience: YOLO — You Only Live Once. It captured the festival as a moment to switch off, be present, meet friends and experience live music together. Rather than describing where the festival takes place or what genre it represents, YOLO expresses why you should be there. We transformed the four letters into a playful modular identity, with individual letterforms becoming graphic elements in their own right. High-contrast black, white and electric yellow, expressive typography and unconventional compositions give the festival an energetic visual language designed to work from artist announcements and social content to the live event itself.

Result

YOLO Fest turned a generic local event title into an ownable festival brand with room to grow beyond a single edition, location or musical genre. Naming, verbal identity and visual design work as one system, built around the same simple proposition: life happens now.The result is an identity immediate and accessible enough for a broad audience, yet distinctive enough to build recognition of its own — transforming a generic “Olomouc Festivities” into YOLO Fest, a brand.
